In a market promising ever faster results, we chose the opposite direction. Not out of nostalgia, but because we learned — by weighing, waiting, correcting — that some things simply cannot be rushed.
There is a book in the family archive, its cover worn by time and by the hands that leafed through it. It is not just any recipe book: it is the record of generations who noted down, corrected and tried again the same botanical formulations, sometimes for years, before considering them ready. If we had to point to a single object able to sum up our production philosophy, it would be this one.
Because the question we ask ourselves every time we develop a new product is not "how quickly can we launch it", but "how much time does it need in order to be truly ready". It is a difference that seems small, yet it changes everything: the way we select raw materials, the way we work with them, the way in which, in the end, a product reaches the face of the person using it.

This book belongs to no single author and to no single era. It has been opened and closed by many hands across the generations, each adding an observation, correcting a dosage, noting why a particular infusion worked better at one time of year than another.
It is no accident that we still keep it today as a point of reference, even now that the Porro Method relies on instruments and scientific expertise far more advanced than those available at the end of the nineteenth century. That book reminds us of something no modern laboratory can teach on its own: that the quality of a formula is also measured by the number of times someone had the patience to make it again, until it was right.

What we mean, in practice, by slow luxury
Time is not a cost to be cut
Slow extractions, long fermentations, resting periods for the formulas: every phase that requires time was designed that way on purpose. Speeding it up would mean obtaining a different product, not the same product more quickly.
Correction is part of the process
We do not believe in the perfect formula on the first attempt. Every product is born of several versions, tested and corrected, before being considered coherent with the texture, fragrance and longevity we want to guarantee together.
The system matters more than the single ingredient
We do not chase the trending active of the moment. We build every formula as a balance between elements that support one another — work that, by its nature, takes longer than a single claim on a label.

Why we don't compete on speed
In the cosmetics market there is a promise we hear repeated often: visible results in a few days, textures ready after a few weeks of development, continuous product launches to keep pace with trends. It is a legitimate model, and we understand why it works for many brands. It is not, however, ours.
We deliberately chose a different rhythm, even at the cost of launching fewer products, more rarely, and of seeing them cost more than an alternative developed in a shorter time. Not because time alone automatically guarantees a better result — that would be a simplification — but because, for the kind of formulas we want to create, we have not found an honest way to shorten the process without giving up something we consider essential: the coherence between all the elements of a product, from texture to fragrance, from absorption to how it lasts over time.

Choosing an Essenza Lago di Como product means, in a sense, accepting an implicit pact: we will never take a shortcut that compromises the coherence of a formula simply to launch something new ahead of schedule. In return, we ask for the same patience in daily use — the results of a botanical ritual built on this philosophy are built through consistency, not through a single isolated gesture.
It is the same principle that has run through our family from the days of Blevio until today: things done well take time, and time, when respected rather than compressed, becomes itself part of the final result.

It is a legitimate question and one we ask ourselves too. The honest answer is that the price is a consequence of this approach, not its purpose: the extraction, fermentation and correction times of the formulas carry a real cost that is reflected in the final product, not a margin added to tell a story.
How long does developing a product take on average?
It varies from formula to formula, but the timescales are generally longer than the standards of large-scale cosmetics manufacturing, precisely because they include phases of resting, correction and further experimentation that are not compressed to meet a launch deadline.
Does this approach limit the number of new products you launch?
Yes, and it is a conscious choice. We prefer to launch fewer products, developed until they reach the coherence we consider necessary, rather than expanding the catalogue quickly at the expense of the method.
