Enough of 10-Step Beauty Routines. Skin Doesn't Need More Products — It Needs More Time
While TikTok sells entire shelves of industrial serums, slow beauty has become the macro beauty trend of 2026. Here is why the Porro Method understood it 130 years ago.
Cleanser, essence, serum, second serum, eye cream, moisturiser, oil, sun protection. If you follow even a tenth of the beauty advice circulating online, your bathroom shelf probably looks more like a laboratory than a gesture of care.
The major industry analyses for 2026 confirm it: global beauty is undergoing a clear shift away from hyper-layered routines towards slow beauty — slow, intentional rituals designed to last, not to collect steps. It isn't nostalgia. It is a direct response to the exhaustion — digital exhaustion included — of a generation that tried to "optimise" even its own skin.
Essenza Lago di Como never had to chase this trend. It has been practising it since 1893.
The problem with the industrial beauty routine
Why "more products" doesn't mean "more results"
Overload, not care
Layering ten different products often saturates the skin instead of nourishing it, increasing the risk of irritation and sensitisation.
Zero emotional component
A routine designed to "tick off steps" turns a moment of care into a task to be completed — the exact opposite of what stressed skin requires.
Industrial formulas, not botanical ones
Many viral products are made for the speed of social media, not for efficacy over time: standardised ingredients, designed for the video, not for the skin.
"Beauty is born from inner serenity. Every formula, every fragrance is also designed to soothe stress and anxiety and to rebalance mood."Countess Virginia Porro
The Porro Method
Fewer steps, more intention: slow beauty before it had a name
In the family's summer villa in Blevio, on Lake Como, the Porro family began experimenting with their first artisanal cosmetic preparations as early as 1893, drawing inspiration from the citrus fruits, white flowers, officinal herbs and plants of the surrounding gardens.
Not ten steps, but a few formulations dense with meaning, built around the Complesso Lariano — the botanical infusion of thyme, sage, oregano, nettle, dandelion and jasmine typical of the Lario microclimate — able to act on skin and mood within the same gesture.
Not industrial
Slow, non-standardised extraction and fermentation processes: time is part of the formula, not a cost to be cut.
A few references, not dozens
Every ritual — Inner Light in the morning, Inner Peace in the evening — is made of four gestures, not ten: designed to complete one another, not to accumulate.
A dual effect, not only aesthetic
Every botanical fragrance also acts on the limbic system, the part of the brain that regulates emotions and mood, turning skincare into a moment of genuine decompression.
A heritage, not a fashion
We don't chase the next viral ingredient. We have been perfecting the same botanical method for three generations.
How to truly begin
You don't need to do more. You need to do better, consistently
An effective slow beauty ritual is built on three elements only: a slow cleansing gesture, a targeted treatment for your need of the moment (hydration, regeneration, calm), and a fragrance that closes the ritual as a signal — not as an accessory.
It isn't a question of how many products you use, but of how much presence you bring to each gesture. It is the only real difference between a routine and a ritual.
Frequently asked questions
What you ask us most
Do I have to throw out my whole current routine to start?
No. Slow beauty is not a list of prohibitions, but a change of approach: fewer products chosen with more care, used with more consistency and more presence.
Are results slower than with an intensive routine?
Results come from consistency, not from quantity. Botanical formulations work deeply over time, not with an immediate, temporary effect.
What makes the Complesso Lariano different from other botanical ingredients?
It comes from the specific microclimate of Lake Como — constant humidity, diffused light, moderate temperature range — which encourages a particularly rich phytochemical development in the plants, impossible to replicate elsewhere.
Where do I start if I want to simplify my routine?
Answer our questionnaire: we will point you to the ritual — morning or evening — best suited to your skin, with the fewest gestures necessary.
